Title | Hydraulic feasibility study for the system of Campo de Pozos Batres-Mostoles, Phase 4 (Madrid)
Owner | Aguas del Tajo, Canal Isabel ll (Madrid, Spain)
Budget: | 69.000.000 Euros | Years: | 2001-2005 |
Type | Ground water supply section 4
Project Description | In order to guarantee the increased water demand for the Madrid Community, the project analyzes the possibility of using various sources of surface and ground water, to add 30 cubic hectometres per year to the water supply system of Madrid. There are 5 sections, each for a given area of Madrid (please refer to the attached sketch).
Data sheet | For the 4th section *19.5 km long pipe and diameters from 800 to 1000mm, with 9 crossings to freeways M-600, M-404, A-5 and R-5. *Potable water plant with a capacity of 940 l/, which can be increased to 1200 l/s, for a population of 270.000, with a new tank of 21.000 cubic meters. *The system includes water from a total of 18 wells, with a flow of 100 l/s along the pipe.
Our contribution | *Transient analysis with 10 variables, linking nearby wells and studying the interaction with bladder tanks and air valves, necessary to reduce water hammer effect. *Report proving that, in spite of the complexity of the facilities, the project was feasible using bladder tanks and air valves as protection, which led to the Basic Project. We used software tool Surge5, rel. 3.51 (currently, we use version 2010). The engineering analysis was prepared for the Canal de Isabel II Project Department and finally the works, based on our recommendations, were completed and are a part of the ground water supply system for Madrid. |
